Stone Quarry Mine near the brow of Ecton Hill in Staffordshire has a history of copper mining that, through the discovery of mining artefacts, can be traced back over 3500 years to the Bronze Age. These artefacts include hammer stones and an antler tool now residing in the Peak District Historical Society’s museum in Matlock Bath. Of particular interest is the discovery of unusually large shotholes which are believed to date from the mid 17th century – perhaps the earliest documented in Britain.
The film features contributions from several of the underground exploration team of Paul Deakin, Len Kirkham, Nigel Cooper, John Barnatt and Dave Webb.
